How to become an Early Riser!!

Make Small Changes in your routine by starting slowly and gradually by waking just 15-30 minutes earlier than usual. Get used to this for a few days. Then cut back another 15-30 minutes. Do this gradually until you get to your goal time.

Sleep early. Push yourself on the bed everyday and try to sleep by listening to some soothing music or reading a book. You might be used to staying up late, perhaps watching TV or surfing the Internet/social media, but if you continue this habit, while trying to get up earlier, sooner or later one is going to give. And if it is the early rising that gives, then you will crash and sleep late and have to start over. So you need to do this in a way that your mind and body understands.

Use an alarm clock but keep it far from bed. If it’s right next to your bed, you’ll shut it off or hit snooze. Never hit snooze. If it’s far from your bed, you have to get up out of bed to shut it off. By then, you’re up. Now the task at hand would be just have to stay up.

Go out of the bedroom as soon as you shut the alarm. Don’t allow yourself to think and argue in your mind going back to bed. Just force yourself to go out of the room. My habit is to go out on my balcony with a class of water and the follow it up with brushing my teeth and wash my face. By the time I’ve done that, I’m awake enough to face the day.

Do not rationalize. If you allow your brain to talk you out of getting up early, you’ll never do it. Don’t make getting back in bed an option. Most of us think and say to ourselves that its just one day and let’s sleep a little longer. This is where the trouble begins as if you break for one day it’s bound to happen again and again. Our mind is a very powerful thing and what we make it believe is what it believes in and starts pushing us to continue doing the same each time.

Have a good important reason to get up early in the morning. This reason should motivate you to get up. The reason should be important enough to push us every morning and help get us into a disciplined routine. For me my motivation is early morning workout and planning for the day. Since I have turned into a fitness buff recently, this helps me push each day. Also planning in the morning helps me advance throughout the day with ease only focussing on execution.

Reward yourself for waking up early. A reward can be anything from a good breakfast or watching the sunrise. Find something that is pleasurable and interesting to you that makes you going at it. This is connected in a way to the last aspect above. Exercise makes me feel good and I can spot the difference in my physical self and I am loving it each day. Also the day at work has been smooth because of the morning planning. That is my Reward which drives me daily.

Use the extra time at hand diligently everyday which will help making it exciting to look forward to.The extra time at hand needs to be used well. Imagine getting up early only to spend the time surfing the net or on social media. It wont help and there would be no excitement beyond maybe 2/3 days. Once you start using the time in a planned manner and effectively, it will help you in various ways…

The above is from my own followings and how I set myself up for waking up early everyday, whether it’s a working day or a holiday. By now my biological clock is used to this and I do not need the alarm except on days when I am very tired in the night and there might be a chance that the morning I might miss waking up. As I always say, everything is possible and what you can think you can achieve. I hope this helps you in setting yourself up as well, the way it did for me.

Do share your thoughts and experience with me once you practice this as it will only help me learn more to share more…

Happy Waking up Early!!
