A Journey through the Misty Meadows – My Trip to Lambasingi, Andhra Pradesh

3–4 minutes

After months of anticipation and planning, the day finally arrived when I embarked on my much-awaited adventure to Lambasingi in 2019, famously known as the ‘Kashmir of the South.’ Nestled in the Eastern Ghats’ heart, this charming little hamlet in Andhra Pradesh, India, is a rare gem that offers an exhilarating concoction of misty landscapes, serenity, and delightful cuisine. Lambasingi is a small village located in the Visakhapatnam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is situated in the Eastern Ghats at an elevation of about 1,000 meters (3,200 feet) above sea level.

One of the primary attractions of Lambasingi is its unique climate. It experiences sub-tropical highland climate, which is quite unusual for a place in southern India. During the winter months, temperatures in Lambasingi can drop to freezing point, and it is one of the few places in South India where snowfall has been reported in the past. This makes it a popular destination for tourists who want to experience a cooler climate and see frost-covered landscapes.

Apart from its climate, Lambasingi is also known for its scenic beauty and lush greenery. The village is surrounded by mist-covered hills, dense forests, and coffee plantations. It offers numerous opportunities for nature walks, trekking, and bird watching. The nearby Chintapalli and Araku Valley are also popular tourist destinations known for their scenic landscapes and tribal culture.

Lambasingi is a relatively remote and less explored destination, which adds to its charm and appeal. However, in recent years, it has gained popularity among tourists seeking offbeat destinations. The local government and tourism authorities are making efforts to develop infrastructure and promote tourism in the area while ensuring sustainable practices.

##Travel

I started my journey from Hyderabad, which is well connected to Lambasingi by road and rail. I opted for the road trip, taking the route via Rajahmundry, which let me witness the beautiful countryside views of Andhra Pradesh. A 12-hour drive, it was indeed long but not tiring as the scenic vistas kept me engaged throughout.

##Stay

There are a few homestays and resorts in and around Lambasingi that provide a comfortable stay. I chose to stay at Lambasingi Holiday Homes, a quaint little homestay with rustic interiors that blend perfectly with its surroundings. The rooms were cozy, and the staff was hospitable, ensuring a pleasant stay.

##Sightseeing and Tourist Spots

The main attraction of Lambasingi is its cool climate and natural beauty. Often cloaked in a mystical blanket of fog, Lambasingi is perfect for quiet strolls and nature photography.

I started my day with a visit to the Thajangi Reservoir, a serene spot perfect for a picnic. The tranquil reservoir, surrounded by lush hills, offered a mesmerizing view, especially at sunrise.

Next on the list was Kothapally Waterfalls. Though a bit off the track, the falls are a definite must-visit. The cascading waters, set against the backdrop of dense forests, were truly a sight to behold.

I also visited the Pepper and Coffee Plantations, which provide a livelihood for the local tribal people. A walk through the plantations was both informative and therapeutic.

##Cuisine

The local cuisine of Andhra Pradesh is a delightful treat for food lovers. Known for its rich flavors and spices, I had the chance to savor a variety of dishes. From the fiery ‘Andhra Chicken Curry’ to the tangy ‘Pulihora’ (tamarind rice), and the crispy ‘Pesarattu’ (green gram dosa), every dish was a symphony of flavors. I also tried the local bamboo chicken, a tribal delicacy, at a roadside eatery; it was a unique culinary experience!

##Shopping

While Lambasingi is not a shopping destination, you can buy some locally grown spices like pepper and coffee from the plantations. They make good souvenirs to bring back home.

To conclude, my trip to Lambasingi was a beautiful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. The serenity, natural beauty, and the warm hospitality of the locals made my visit a memorable one. Lambasingi, with its misty landscapes and fascinating culture, truly lives up to its tag of the ‘Kashmir of Andhra Pradesh.’

If you’re someone who loves nature and tranquility, Lambasingi should definitely be on your travel list. Just remember to pack some warm clothes, as the temperatures here can drop quite low, especially in the night.

Happy Traveling!
