Embarking on the journey of higher education is a transformative experience, where one faces numerous challenges and discovers their true self. During my time at Indira School of Business Studies in Pune, pursuing my PGDBM from 2000 to 2002, I had the privilege of encountering exceptional individuals who played a pivotal role in my personal and professional growth. Ms. Tarita Shanker, Mr. Chetan Wakalkar, and Ms. Madhuri Sathe, along with the rich experiences of hostel life, lifelong friendships, and engaging in social activities, collectively shaped the person I am today.
Mentorship and Guidance:
One of the most profound influences during my college years was Ms. Tarita Shanker, the Chairperson of the trust and my biggest mentor. Her unwavering support and guidance propelled me towards self-discovery and pushed me to explore my potential beyond what I thought was possible. Ms. Shanker instilled in me a sense of belief, helping me overcome challenges and unlocking hidden talents. Her encouragement to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new opportunities was instrumental in building my confidence and shaping my identity.
Mr. Chetan Wakalkar, our Director and teacher, was another pillar of support and inspiration. His invaluable insights and teachings went beyond the classroom, instilling in us a sense of discipline, perseverance, and a thirst for knowledge. Under his guidance, I learned the importance of setting goals, working diligently towards them, and constantly striving for excellence. Mr. Wakalkar’s mentorship fostered a growth mindset that has stayed with me throughout my journey.
I must also acknowledge the significant contribution of Ms. Madhuri Sathe, our Corporate Relations Director, who played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academia and the corporate world. Her expertise and guidance in honing our professional skills, connecting us with industry experts, and providing opportunities for internships and placements were invaluable in shaping our career paths and building a stronger sense of self.
Hostel Life and Lifelong Friendships:
The two years spent in the college hostel were a treasure trove of memories and life lessons. Sharing a living space with friends from diverse backgrounds taught me the importance of tolerance, adaptability, and appreciating different perspectives. Late-night study sessions, laughter-filled conversations, and supporting each other through both triumphs and tribulations created bonds that have transcended time and distance. The hostel life experience taught me invaluable lessons in teamwork, empathy, and the art of compromise, which continue to shape my interactions and relationships today.
Memories as Elected Council President:
One of the most cherished memories of my college life was being elected as the Council President for the term. This position of responsibility allowed me to develop leadership qualities, enhance my decision-making abilities, and learn to effectively manage a team. It was a humbling experience to represent my peers and contribute to the betterment of our college community. The role taught me the importance of effective communication, collaboration, and the value of serving others. The responsibilities and challenges I faced during this term not only strengthened my character but also provided a platform for personal growth and self-reflection.
Social Activities and Beyond:
Indira School of Business Studies provided a vibrant environment for holistic development. Engaging in various social activities, clubs, and events allowed me to explore my passions, develop new skills, and forge meaningful connections. From participating in cultural festivals to organizing industry interaction sessions, each experience added depth to my college journey and helped me cultivate a well-rounded personality. These activities nurtured my creativity, boosted my confidence, and provided a platform to express myself authentically.
Life-long Impact:
Looking back, I realize that those two years at Indira School of Business Studies were pivotal in shaping my identity. The college, teachers, mentors, and friends created an ecosystem that nurtured my intellectual curiosity, honed my skills, and instilled in me a sense of purpose. The challenges I faced, the friendships I forged, and the guidance I received have become the foundation of the person I am today. I am forever grateful for the profound impact my college years had on shaping my identity and preparing me to thrive in the world beyond academia.
To conclude, My college journey at Indira School of Business Studies was a transformative period filled with invaluable life lessons and memorable experiences. The mentorship of Ms. Tarita Shanker, Mr. Chetan Wakalkar, and Ms. Madhuri Sathe provided me with guidance, inspiration, and the tools to navigate challenges and build a stronger sense of self.
